Dr. Jack Zigler has been appointed President of The International Society for The Advancement of Spine Surgery. Zigler is an orthopedic surgeon at the Plano-based Texas Back Institute, and will serve as president for the 2019-2020 year.

ISASS helps provide patients access to top spine surgery options and serve as an educational forum to advance new techniques such as minimally invasive spine surgery and robotics. More than 3,000 members in 78 countries are prolific researchers and have produced 4,200 scientific papers since the organization’s founding in 2000.

In 2001,  Zigler was the first surgeon to implant the ProDisc lumbar artificial disc in replacement surgery in the United States, and has trained hundreds of surgeons around the world on the procedure. He has also been President of the American Spinal Injury Association and on the board of the Cervical Spine Research Society.

“I hope to continue the strong tradition of leadership for this important organization that was started by some of the key innovators and leaders in international spine surgery,” Dr. Zigler said via release. I would like to position ISASS over the next few years so that it becomes the ‘go-to’ society for those working to improve the lives of patients with degenerative spine conditions by the best possible surgical treatment, “
