Which Local Healthcare Companies Are Fortune’s Best Place to Work in Texas?

It will be no surprise the businesses that were awarded by Fortune as the best places to work for women and cracked the list of top companies nationwide have also been named to the 2019 Best Workplaces in Texas list by Fortune and Great Place to Work. Encompass Health and Texas Health Resources were both made the list, placing No. 18 and 19 respectively in the Large Company category. Texas Rehabilitation Hospital of Fort Worth placed 28 in the small and medium company category.

The rankings are based 42,000 employees’ feedback about respect, opportunities for professional development, or team work for any company with locations in Texas. At Encompass, 91 percent of employees said it was a great place to work. At over 10,000 employees, it is one of the largest providers in the nation and serves 125,000 patients each year. Encompass has made numerous Fortune best places to work year for the last three years.

THR is a nonprofit health system that spans 16 counties and 28 hospitals across North Texas. There are 4,000 beds, 6,200 physicians and more than 25,000 employees in the system. At THR, 93 percent of employees said it was a great place to work, which is why they have made several Fortune best places to work lists for the last four years.

At the Texas Rehabilitation Hospital of Fort Worth, 94 percent of the 268 employees say they work at a good place. The hospital is an inpatient facility treating those who have suffered an acute illness of injury. It also made the list in 2016.

“Our people dedicate their hearts, minds and actions to the work they do, which is why we’re on this list. This honor proudly demonstrates how we live Our Texas Health Promise through the care of our patients and one another,” said Michelle Kirby, executive vice president and Texas Health’s chief people officer via release.

“The healthcare industry spends so much time focusing on patients that we forget about the employees,” Encompass Health CEO April Anthony says. “If you aren’t taking care of them, it’s a non-sustaining strategy.”
