UT Southwestern Named Top Hospital in DFW, Second in State by U.S. News

|

UT Southwestern Medical Center again took the top spot on U.S. News & World Report’s rankings of the best hospitals in Dallas-Fort Worth, topping Baylor University Medical Center and Medical City Dallas.

UT Southwestern came in as the second best hospital in the state, and it was nationally ranked for seven specialties: Geriatrics (No. 18), Diabetes & Endocrinology (21), Neurology & Neurosurgery (21), Nephrology (25), Urology (34), Pulmonology (43), and Orthopedics (49).

The annual Best Hospitals listings from U.S. News are a product of an analysis of data from about 5,000 medical centers, and survey responses from more than 30,000 physicians.

U.S. News ranked Houston Methodist Hospital best in the state. Here’s how the rest of the DFW rankings shake out, with state rankings in parentheses:

1. UT Southwestern Medical Center (2)
2. Baylor University Medical Center (3)
3. Medical City Dallas (6)
4. Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Southwest (Fort Worth) (t-13)
t-5. Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth (t-16)
t-5. Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas (t-16)

UT Southwestern President Dr. Daniel Podolsky said in a statement that the recognition was gratifying.

“Through ongoing efforts to continuously improve quality, expand our health care partnerships, and extend our reach into the community, our commitment is to continue building upon the best currently available treatments and therapies that we provide to those who entrust us with their care, and to discover new and better ways to promote health and a healthy society across the region, the state, the nation, and the international community,” he said.

BUMC scored a pair of national rankings, as well—at No. 40 for Ear, Nose & Throat and No. 42 for Gastroenterology & GI Surgery. Medical City Dallas came in at No. 14 in Gynecology.

“This award is a testament to the commitment of our multidisciplinary teams who provide the highest quality, most comprehensive healthcare to all of our patients,” said Chris Mowan, CEO of Medical City Dallas, in a statement.
