The Methodist Health System Foundation has named State Senator Royce West as this year’s Robert S. Folsom Leadership Award recipient.
He’s getting the award for demonstrating commitment and excellence in community leadership that mirrors former Dallas Mayor Robert Folsom.
Specifically, the long-time politician first joined the Texas Senate in 1992, and has helped establish the University of North Texas at Dallas and a new law school in downtown Dallas along the way. Royce’s legislation created Prairie View A&M University’s Texas Juvenile Crime Prevention Center, and more recently, he’s pushed for state laws that help police agencies equip their officers with things like body cameras and in-car video. He’s also the managing partner at West & Associates.
“Like Bob Folsom, Royce is dedicated to his family, to his faith, and to Dallas. Throughout his decades of public service, he has worked to improve the lives of those less fortunate, and that’s why he is the perfect choice to receive the prestigious Folsom Award,” said Jim Johnston, president of the Methodist Health System Foundation, in a statement.
Methodist will honor West at a dinner in late October at the Hilton Anatole Hotel.
