Methodist Dallas Airs Live Kidney Transplant On Facebook

By Shawn Shinneman |

Methodist Dallas broadcasted a live kidney transplant via Facebook Live Friday morning, a narrated bit of educational fun they hope will put the public more in-the-know on kidney donation and the need for donors. This particular donor was a 47-year-old mother donating a kidney to her 20-year-old daughter, Jessica Gutierrez, of Cedar Hill. Jessica was born with renal problems and was in stage 4 kidney failure prior to finding out her mom was a match.

The video seems to have accomplished it’s objective—tons of people interacted and asked questions throughout, and as of Friday afternoon the first video, which shows prep for the removal from the donor, had more than 45,000 views. You’ll find that here. Subsequent videos showing the removal and transfer to Jessica also had thousands of views.
