Moody Foundation Gives $15M Toward Creating Moody Breast Health Center at Parkland

|

The Moody Foundation has contributed a lead gift toward efforts to create a new breast health center at Parkland health and Hospital System. The foundation added $15 million to the pot, bringing Parkland to about $30 million of its $40 million goal. The center will be named the Moody Breast Health Center at Parkland.

Parkland treats about 20 percent of the breast cancer cases in Dallas County, and the cases tend to involve patients that are younger and diagnosed at later stages of the cancer. The hospital provides breast health services for 30,000 people, diagnosing and treating 400 breast cancer cases a year.

With the new center, breast health services—which had been spread across the system—will come under a single roof.

“The new comprehensive breast center will include more than breast imaging,” said Dr. Phil Evans, who directs the UT Southwestern Center for Breast Care, in a statement. “Surgical, medical and radiation oncologists, along with other support services, will all be working together in the same space and patients will be seen with much more continuity.”

The Galveston-based Moody Foundation has popped up in this space before, having given $12 million to Children’s Health late last year to help the hospital establish a prestigious faculty scholar program.
