The neonatal intensive care unit at Texas Health Plano earned a Level IV designation from the state, the highest level a NICU can attain.
It’s the first within Texas Health Resources and in Collin County to get pegged as a Level IV. The hospital joins NICUs at Children’s Medical Center of Dallas, Medical City Children’s Hospital in Dallas, and Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth as the other Dallas-Fort Worth facilities to earn the designation.
Cook Children’s became the first about a year ago, after a law passed by the Texas Legislature put the criteria in place. Every NICU in Texas that wants to be reimbursed under Medicaid will need to undergo the designation process by Sept. 2018.
“Receiving a Level IV NICU designation from the state means that hospital administration, the medical staff, nursing and ancillary staff have made a commitment through the years to provide the highest quality medical and surgical care to all newborn infants, especially those in need of specialized care,” said Dr. Antonio Santiago, medical director at the Texas Health Plano NICU, in a statement.
