Medical City North Hills Hires a New Chief Nursing Officer

By Shawn Shinneman |

Medical City North Hills has named a new chief nursing officer. The hospital said Tuesday that John Marker has been tapped for the role, effective April 9.

John Marker has been named chief nursing officer at Medical City North Hills.

Marker joins the North Richland Hills-based hospital after serving as chief nursing officer at Women’s & Children’s Hospital in Lafayette, Louisiana. He takes over for Tracey Smithson, who left for Snellvile, Georgia-based Eastside Medical Center, another HCA Healthcare facility.

At his hospital in Louisiana, Marker cut nursing turnover in half while improving patient satisfaction, according to a news release from Medical City North Hills. He’s been CNO there since 2009 and served as associate chief nursing officer at Wichita, Kansas-based Wesley Medical Center prior to that.

“Having a nurse leader with such experience and nursing leadership expertise such as John’s is a great benefit to Medical City North Hills and our patients,” said Xavier Villarreal, Medical City North Hills CEO, in a statement. “Our growth and clinical accomplishments will only further be strengthened with such leadership.”
