Baylor Scott & White Health celebrated the topping off of its sports therapy and research center Tuesday at The Star, the Dallas Cowboys’ new home in Frisco. The facility, Baylor Scott & White Sports Therapy & Research at The Star, is scheduled to open next April.

During the event, a group of nearly 300 construction workers were recognized for their work on the facility. BSWH’s CEO Jim Hinton, its Chief Integration Officer LaVone Arthur, and its board Chair Jim Turner spoke, as did Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and Jeff Cheney, Frisco’s mayor.

Arthur told D CEO Healthcare about the impact BSWH hopes the center will have in the community: “The topping off of Baylor Scott & White Sports Therapy & Research at The Star marks an important milestone and provides an opportunity to thank the men and women who have been working day in and day out to bring the facility to life,” he said. “We are so grateful for the construction team, the Dallas Cowboys, the City of Frisco and Frisco ISD for their important roles in bringing us to this point, and we’re excited for the grand opening in 2018.”

In fall 2016, BSWH announced it would build a 300,000-square-foot campus to focus on “injury prevention, research, and wellness for athletes of all levels.” The project is the first collaboration between an NFL team, a health system, and a school district.

According to BSWH, the facility offers a variety of sport medicine and healthcare services. The list includes an imaging center, sports performance program, urgent care center, outpatient rehabilitation, brain injury program, and research for clinical management and concussion prevention.

In a statement to D CEO Healthcare, Hinton said: “The focus of Baylor Scott & White Sports Therapy & Research at The Star is preventing illness and injuries before they ever happen. Then, if an illness or injury does strike, we have the expertise to quickly diagnose and treat it. As Baylor Scott & White [Health] continues transforming to meet the needs of our patients into the future, this facility will support our commitment to keeping our communities healthy.”
