Methodist Health System recently switched over all 46 of its facilities using its electronic health record system to Epic, a health software and IT company mainly known for handling mid-size and large medical groups, hospitals, and integrated hospital organizations. The change, which took 18 months to complete, was made in order to more easily exchange secure patient-data records with other healthcare systems and providers.
Methodist Health first spoke to Epic in 2015 about introducing its software to the system. Following necessary certifications, training, testing, and “customization input” from employees and healthcare experts, the system was fully integrated.
To introduce the new system to its staffers, Methodist Health trained 80 physicians early in the transition process.
Stephen Mansfield, Methodist Health president and CEO, said the decision to select Epic and implement the full comprehensive suite of Epic modules—and launch the system across all Methodist campuses simultaneously—was a “massive endeavor.”
“We realize there is still work to do to optimize the system, but I am very proud of the Methodist team and their work with our Epic partners,” Mansfield said.
