According to U.S. News, the rankings are based on faculty resources, a peer assessment score, and program selectivity statistics, along with other calculations.

The top 11 medical schools for primary care, the publication says, are as follows:

1. University of Washington–Seattle

2. University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill

3. UC San Francisco

4. Oregon Health and Science University–Portland

5. University of Michigan-Ann Arbor

6. UC Los Angeles

7. University of Minnesota–Minneapolis

8. (tie) Baylor College of Medicine–Houston

8. (tie) University of Colorado–Aurora

Dr. Angela Milhalic, associate dean for student affairs and professor of pediatrics at UT Southwestern, says the school has recently implemented a new curriculum for the class that entered in Fall 2015 to continue strengthening its position among the “Top 11 Best Medical Schools for Primary Care.”

“This new curriculum enhances integration of our basic science education with patient care training and experience, provides for longitudinal outpatient clinical experiences, and ensures each student has an opportunity to grown in diverse areas through additional electives, varied scholarly activities and distinction pathways, and incorporation of health economics, multiculturalism, and an understanding of future frontiers of science as they continue their career of life-long learning,” Milhalic said.
