Texas Health Resources last week settled a civil lawsuit alleging that it reneged on promises to fund $25 million in capital improvements on a Sherman hospital it purchased in 2010.
According to the lawsuit, THR and Plano-based LHP Hospital Group vowed to upgrade the Wilson N. Jones Memorial Hospital and not sell it for 10 years. Despite receiving higher purchasing offers, the hospital’s board of directors agreed to the sale so long as THR and LHP upheld their end of the bargain. In January 2015, the hospital’s foundation, which owned the facility from 1914 until the sale, sued for fraud, alleging that THR had not performed the agreed-upon improvements and had announced plans to sell the hospital six years early.
Last week, the parties reached a confidential settlement. In a statement, Charla Aldous, the attorney representing the Wilson N. Jones Foundation, said the settlement money would go “to help provide healthcare to the indigent in Grayson County.”
Texas Health Resources declined to comment on the settlement.
