HCA-owned Las Colinas Medical Center has named a new chief operating officer.

On February 8, Ben Harris will take over as COO at the Irving hospital. He leaves from another HCA facility, The Medical Center of Plano, where he served as vice president of business development.

The Plano hospital grew significantly since his arrival in 2011, adding new service lines in neurosurgery, spine, trauma, and oncology. The system says he was “instrumental” in establishing one of the nation’s largest dedicated neuroscience units. He also increased the hospital’s physician satisfaction ratings to get the facility into the top 3 percent of American hospitals.

In his new job, he’ll oversee daily operations of the 100-bed hospital. He will be responsible for more than 550 physicians and 450 staffers. He is a graduate of the University of Texas and received his masters of business administration from Dallas Baptist last year.
