The CEO of Plano’s Alliance Data has been appointed chairman of the Children’s Health System of Texas board.

Ed Heffernan was appointed to the board in February of 2012. Prior to that, he represented his company on the hospital’s Corporate Partners Initiative, which helped raise money and attract volunteers to the pediatric health system. Heffernan takes over as the board’s highest-ranking member at a time of great expansion for the Medical District institution.

It recently launched the Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine in Plano, a standalone facility dedicated to keeping children healthy in sports. It rebranded itself from Children’s Medical Center to Children’s Health System of Texas in 2014, vowing to increase its visibility across the entire region via outpatient care centers. It also launched a new in-school telemedicine program.

Heffernan is also a member of the board of the Shelton School (a private Dallas school for children with learning disabilities) and a supporter of the Plano Independent School District Foundation. Alliance Data is a publicly traded company headquartered at 7500 Dallas Parkway.
