A merger between Plano’s U.S. Renal Care and the Nashville-based DSI Renal has cleared the necessary regulatory hurdles to create a network of more than 23,000 patients.

The deal creates the nation’s third largest dialysis treatment provider and will now be present in 33 states and the U.S. territory of Guam. Under the merger, U.S. Renal Care will absorb DSI’s 99 facilities and 58 home therapy programs. It includes 300 outpatient clinics, 147 home dialysis programs, 26 contracts with acute care hospitals, and 5,400 employees.

The company’s headquarters will remain in Plano. DSI’s Nashville office will now be a USRC business office and corporate support center.

“This is an exciting time for U.S. Renal Care, and we look forward to working with our new employees, managers and physician partners to ensure excellent clinical and operational management, and to expand access to the care dialysis patients expect and deserve,” read a statement from USRC CEO J. Christopher Brengard.

The two first announced the merger in August.
