In Harvard Business Review, UTSW’s Warner Talks Designing Clements Hospital

Around the time UT Southwestern Medical Center opened the William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital last year, Dr. John Warner had a speech he liked to give when he’d get in front of a crowd. As the CEO of UT Southwestern’s University Hospitals, Warner was an integral part in helping design the new facility.

Warner revisits that speech in this month’s Harvard Business Review, writing about how the medical center engaged stakeholders from physicians to patients to researchers to emergency partners in developing the center. What emerges is a picture of a building that is more digitally connected along with specially designed features for patients and their families that likely wouldn’t have been included otherwise.

Most recently, the hospital was named a Top Performer by The Joint Commission, which signaled that it scored 95 percent above on safety and quality measures judged by the third party accrediting party.
