End-of-Summer Skin Tips from Joanna Czech

To get you through those last few sweltering weeks.

Shop display windows may be filling up with wool skirts and cashmere sweaters, but Dallasites know all too well that this summer is far from over. We won’t be wearing those cute ankle boots for weeks, and our skin will be battling high UV indexes and ridiculous humidity for weeks to come.

To help you battle through the final few weeks of summer, we consulted glowy complexion expert Joanna Czech, whose A-list clients include Kate Winslet, Cate Blanchett, and Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour.

What product do you rely on to get you through a Dallas summer?

My go-tos are Biologique Recherche P50 W 1970 PH Controlling Toner, C-Boost by Environ, and Vintners Daughter Serum mixed with Biologique Recherche Creme Vernix.

Is there a sunscreen you recommend?

I love working with Biologique Recherché Protection SPF 25. It protects against UVA, UVB, and Infrared Rays. I also love Drunk Elephant SPF.

How about sunscreen for your lips?

I wear SPF 30 Clarins Lip or Lippe Balm by Drunk Elephant.

Any tips for soothing sunburnt skin?

I love using Calming Serum by Dr. Barbara Sturm and mixing it with Hyaluronic Serum by Biologique Recherché  Or Colustrum by Biologique Recherche followed by Hydrating masks by Meder applied with Cryo sticks.

I tend to break out more (way more) in the summertime. Is there any way to combat this?

Don’t avoid moisturizer, but do use lighter formulations in the day time. You can also add an extra face wash after sports or outdoor activities but make sure to balance with a toner. Don’t go above SPF 30 because some of the higher SPF’s cause breakouts.

What’s the biggest skincare mistake people make in the summertime?

Over exfoliating, having intensive laser treatments (the skin is much more reactive in the summer so healing is slower), and not protecting face with SPF.  Also, making sure you don’t forget SPF on hands, ears, feet, and the soles of feet.

Why the soles?

When you are on the beach or barefoot in a sunny place, your soles are exposed to the sun and can burn. Most people completely ignore them.

Are there any natural products we should try (whether applying or eating—or both!) for better skin?

Eat anything with Vitamin C. Vitamin C naturally strengthens the skin, making it stronger and less susceptible to sunburn. Medik8 CE Thione Vitamin C Serum and C-Boost by Environ are my favorites.
