If you have been looking for a way to blow off some steam, literally, then I’ve found just the workout for you with Sunstone’s Sweat class.
This 45-minute resistance training class is, based on my experience, is at a level that sits comfortably between Sunstone’s Core and Metal classes—Metal remaining the most intense.
Sweat is Sunstone’s most cardio-driven class. This series focuses on lower and upper body resistance exercises executed with a weighted ball. The resistance workout is split by a 15-minute intense cardio segment. The combination of interval training, strength-based exercises and utilization of large muscle groups is designed to make you sweat.
I was introduced to some new (to me) exercises in this class,–the Atomic Push-Up and Burpees to name only a few. They’re tough, yes, but it only took me watching a few examples from the instructor to learn them, but I got it…and felt it. While you’re in Sweat, you work most every muscle in the body. I felt the resistance in my core, my triceps, my hamstrings, my quads, and my thighs. A few days later, I’m still feeling it. But, again, like all of Sunstone’s series, you leave the class feeling good about yourself and healthier. If you’ve been searching for a class outside of a traditional gym that gives you a full-body work-out in a short time, Sweat class is the place to be. It’s a simple and convenient stop during your lunch hour on the way home from work. In just 45 minutes, you’ve had a complete and thorough workout.
Like Core, the students in Sweat vary in fitness levels and ages. Everyone is there working at their own pace, as the instructor provides several options with most exercises that allow you to work at your own rate of resistance. Even better, no judgment or shame from anyone if you choose to take the path of least resistance with certain exercises, even if it’s only to catch your breath. The goal of Sweat is to keep your heart rate elevated for maximum benefits and to keep you sweating to get rid of the day’s toxins and tensions. Instructors and students are supportive and can also be a source of motivation for the next class.
Now that I have been through most of Sunstone’s class offerings, I’ve learned that no matter what type of workout mood you’re in and whatever your fitness level, Sunstone has “just the thing” every day of the week. The dread of “going to the gym” and waiting in line for a machine or feeling self-conscious in a large weight room are a thing of the past. From the moment you walk into Sunstone, you feel welcomed and part of a group of fitness-minded people who are there to feel better—mind and body.
