Last night on Twitter, Stephen King spilled some news. He told his 7 million followers: “The Old 97s have a record coming in March–AMERICAN PRIMITIVE. It’s terrific.” To which frontman Rhett Miller replied: “Looks like @ATORecords might have to move up the record announcement!”

In a very exclusive journalism interview conducted via cellphone text this morning, Rhett confirmed to D Magazine that King did indeed break the news about the album. “I sent him a link to listen and he just went big,” Rhett texted in the exclusive text.

The Old 97’s and King are buds through Owen King, son of the novelist. Miller and Owen and 97’s guitarist Ken Bethea play Dungeons & Dragons together. The elder King has put the 97’s “Barrier Reef” on his list of eight all-time favorite songs.

American Primitive drops in late March. Tell your ears to be patient.
