Paxtons Get Swatted. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and state Sen. Angela Paxton were the victims of “swatting” on New Year’s Day. The two said in a statement that they were not at home when someone called McKinney Police to falsely report a “life-threatening” situation. They also seemed to lay some of the blame on the Dallas Morning News, which inadvertently posted documents containing Paxton’s address while covering his impeachment trial. On Christmas Day, three Republican lawmakers also reported “swatting” incidents.

Former Kaufman County JP Wants New Death Penalty Trial. Eric Williams is asking a federal judge for a new trial, claiming (in part) that his defense didn’t have enough time to prepare for trial or review the evidence. Williams was accused of killing prosecutor Mark Hasse in January 2013, and then Kaufman County District Attorney Mike McLelland and his wife Cynthia two months later. He was convicted in 2014.

Cowboys Tapped for Pro Bowl. Seven Dallas Cowboys were named to the 2023 Pro Bowl. Quarterback Dak Prescott will be joined by receiver CeeDee Lamb, rusher Micah Parsons, guard Zack Martin (for the ninth time), cornerback DaRon Bland, punter Bryan Anger, and kicker Brandon Aubrey. Lamb, Martin, Parsons, and Bland will start.
