Enjoy today's heat wave, because you're going to be dripping your faucets again tonight.

Community Leader Takes City to Court. Singleton United/Unidos leader Janie Cisneros sued the city earlier this month. Cisnero’s suit says the city has rebuffed her repeated attempts to start the amortization process that would shut down the GAF shingle factory in her West Dallas neighborhood. Community members say the plant is polluting the air and harming their health.

Federal Court Halts Texas Book Law. On Wednesday, the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the state’s new READER (Restricting Explicit and Adult-Designated Educational Resources) Act violated free speech rights. The law, sponsored by state Rep. Jared Patterson (R-Frisco), would have required booksellers to issue ratings indicating sexual content in the materials they sell to school libraries. The law would have gone into effect on January 1.

Stupid Dumb Cold Returns Tonight. Enjoy the balmy mid-50s temperatures today, because temperatures will dip (again) overnight (again) and we’ll wake up to temperatures in the 20s and wind chills in the single digits (again). It will stay in the 30s all weekend, with a chance of rain Sunday and Monday.

Dog Days in Dallas. It might not be the Super Bowl, but three rescue puppies from Dallas will participate in the Puppy Bowl. Lou Lou and Snack Prescott will play for Team Fluff, while Anza captains Team Ruff. The three puppies are among the 131 rescue dogs that will play on February 11’s bowl game, which airs at 1 p.m.
