Leading Off (1/17/24)

Hey, we'll finally be above freezing today for the first time since Saturday evening.

Today Will Be Above Freezing. Barely. It’ll be in the 40s after lunch, but you’ll be driving to work in the teens. We’ve been sub-32 degrees since 6 p.m. on Saturday, and WFAA says a southerly wind will push that arctic air out of the metro area by the time the sun goes down. The high on Thursday will be 55, while the weekend dips back down into the 40s following yet another cold front. The good news is that there is no wintry precipitation in the forecast, so the city won’t shut down like it just did. More Finance Comes to Uptown. Deloitte has signed a lease with Granite Properties for over 100,000 square feet in a 26-floor tower on Cedar Springs Road in Uptown. Deloitte will relocate from the Dallas Arts Tower, né Chase Tower, to join Goldman Sachs, Bank of America, and JPMorgan Chase in leasing significant square footage north of Woodall Rodgers.

Bloomberg Donates $250M For Healthcare Highs. The former New York mayor and presidential candidate announced a quarter of a billion dollar donation to open 10 high schools dedicated to teaching kids healthcare in cities across the country. One of those will be in Dallas, where Baylor Scott & White Health and Uplift Education will transition Uplift Heights Prep in West Dallas into a healthcare campus. The North Texas donation is expected to total a little under $15 million. Both Dallas and Fort Worth ISDs offer curriculum focused on health sciences.
