Leading Off (11/27/17)

We're still in one of the hottest Novembers ever. It's probably fine.

Suspect Shot By Police at The Parks at Arlington. A man in his early 20s was shot and wounded by an off-duty police officer after allegedly stealing two pairs of sunglasses. Apparently, he pulled out what turned out to be a fake gun. Which doesn’t make much sense in that situation, but that is what the surveillance footage shows.

Man Celebrates 100th Birthday With Run At White Rock Lake. To celebrate Orville Rogers’ birthday, a group of family and friends ran a collective 100 miles, and the last mile together, from Mt. Vernon Estate to Orville’s nearby home. Don’t do this for my birthday. Fellas.

How About Them (Squints) Mavs? The team is still in last place. BUT! Over the last four games, they have blown out the Bucks, lost in overtime to the Celtics, beat the Grizzlies, and smoked the Thunder. LET’S GET IT.

Cowboys Release Darren McFadden and Mike Nugent. McFadden was let go so he could find some playing time with another squad, which he wasn’t getting with the Cowboys even though Zeke Elliott is suspended and the team is — and I apologize for using a technical term — kinda trash right now. Nugent was released because Dan Bailey is healthy enough to kick again and everyone had run out of good Ted Nugent jokes. I just looked it up. Speaking of the Cowboys …

Dak Prescott Answers His Critics. The Cowboys QB kind of went long on people thinking he has been exposed. Talking about what has become a bit of a nuclear issue around here, he said:

“Look, having nuclear—my uncle was a great professor and scientist and engineer; good genes, very good genes, OK, very smart, the Wharton School of Finance, very good, very smart—you know, if you’re a conservative Republican, if I were a liberal, if, like, OK, if I ran as a liberal Democrat, they would say I’m one of the smartest people anywhere in the world—it’s true!—but when you’re a conservative Republican they try—oh, do they do a number—that’s why I always start off: Went to Wharton, was a good student, went there, went there, did this, built a fortune—you know I have to give my like credentials all the time, because we’re a little disadvantaged—but you look at the nuclear deal, the thing that really bothers me—it would have been so easy, and it’s not as important as these lives are (nuclear is powerful; my uncle explained that to me many, many years ago, the power and that was 35 years ago; he would explain the power of what’s going to happen and he was right—who would have thought?), but when you look at what’s going on with the four prisoners—now it used to be three, now it’s four—but when it was three and even now, I would have said it’s all in the messenger; fellas, and it is fellas because, you know, they don’t, they haven’t figured that the women are smarter right now than the men, so, you know, it’s gonna take them about another 150 years—but the Persians are great negotiators, the Iranians are great negotiators, so, and they, they just killed, they just killed us.”

Just kidding. He said: “Keep questioning me. Obviously if you’re questioning me, you don’t know me and you don’t know what I’m about. So keep questioning me. Have fun at it.”
