The Holiday Parade Might Be Cancelled

Unless organizers can find a deep-pocketed Santa Claus ready to save Christmas in downtown Dallas.

Dallas’ downtown Christmas parade was cancelled last year because of inclement weather. And that hiatus of holiday cheer and goodwill toward all may last a little longer unless the parade can come up with $347,000 in the very near future.

Children’s Health bowed out as a sponsor earlier this year, but—in the parlance of the holidays—the outlook looked as rosy as St. Nick’s cheeks when it was announced in October that the show would go on this Dec. 2. Turns out we may have been opening our presents too early. It’s going to take a Christmas miracle to keep the Grinches of security, insurance, and cleanup costs from crashing the sleigh into a wall on the eve of the parade’s 30th anniversary. According to parade organizers, who have taken to the media to essentially beg for a deep-pocketed donor to save the day, this might be the end of Christmas as we know it.

Is there a corporate Scrooge in town ready to show their heart of gold?
