Will Clarke’s Worst TV Ideas

The novelist should stick to his day job. Or his weekend job.

Last week, we posted an EarBurner podcast with novelist Will Clarke. Once upon a time, he got caught up in that goofy world of pitching TV shows in Los Angeles. You really need to listen to the podcast to appreciate how silly and soul-crushing it was. But I asked Will to send along the worst TV ideas he ever pitched. And so:

The Grind. A South Beach mobster is relocated to Aspen in the witness protection program. He hates snow and snowboarding but is forced to work at a snowboard store.

The Lamb. A Navy SEAL Team 6 member drowns and is brought back to life and becomes a wizard. There are these other evil wizards who are also trained in combat who try to sacrifice him. You know, like a lamb. That’s why it’s call The Lamb.

The Murder Mystery Book Club. A bunch of moms in a book club get together to solve the murder of one of their friends and find out they are really good at it because they have read so many murder mysteries.

The Oleander Country Club. Ghosts haunt an old country club and play weird poltergeist-y tricks on the club’s racist members to teach them to be better people. It’s Christmas Carol meets Caddy Shack.

Will is doing a “book presentation” of his new novel, The Neon Palm of Madame Melançon, at Wild Detectives on Thursday
