Your Dallas Cowboys Begin Their Inexorable March Toward Super Bowl LII. In their first preseason game, the Cowboys beat Arizona, 20-18. If you needed further evidence that the Lombardi Trophy is coming back to Dallas in February, on Thursday night Kellen Moore looked like a perfectly competent backup quarterback, Taco Charlton continued to be named Taco Charlton, and no additional members of the Cowboys defense were suspended. (We do hope Anthony Brown’s hamstring is fine.) Jerry Jones gets inducted into the Hall of Fame in Canton this weekend, and Dallas faces the Rams next Saturday in Los Angeles. The regular season begins when the Giants visit Jerry World on Sept. 10.

Dog Catcher Wanted. The six candidates vying to become the new head of Dallas Animal Services met Thursday with residents, many of whom would understandably like to see fewer loose dogs roaming the city. Dallas police commanders have been running the department since last year, not too long after Antoinette Brown was mauled to death by a pack of wild dogs in South Dallas. A report issued after that tragedy found significant failures within Dallas Animal Services, and recommended a top-to-bottom overhaul.

Hot New Look Police and Fire Pension Board. Mayor Mike Rawlings named the six new trustees he will appoint to help oversee the pension fund that nearly bankrupted the city. Hopefully they know what they’re doing.

Arrest Made in Connection with DART Train Beating. Police arrested a 21-year-old man accused of participating in the assault, which was recorded on a cellphone and has since made its way across the internet. Authorities have identified several other suspects, and DART has increased police presence at the Deep Ellum and Baylor rail stops.
