RIP, E.G. Hamilton, the NorthPark Center Architect. Hamilton designed a number of Dallas buildings—the Republic Bank Tower, the Chase Bank building off 75, plus a phase of the Dallas Convention Center—but the original NorthPark design, and the fact that it’s called a “center” and not a “mall,” is the one that cemented his legacy. He died Monday night at the age of 97.
Mother of Infant Who Died During Dallas 911 Fiasco Sues T-Mobile. On March 11th, 6-month-old Brandon Alex was found barely breathing after falling off a bed. His babysitter used her T-Mobile phone to call 911, but never got through in the 40 minutes she waited on hold. The baby didn’t make it to the hospital in time. On Monday, Brandon’s family filed a suit against T-Mobile for damages and monetary relief, blaming the phone company for the “ghost call” problem.
Widows Don’t Want Rawlings at Police Memorial. The Dallas Fraternal Order of Police wrote a letter to Mayor Mike Rawlings asking that he not attend a service for fallen officers. The org’s president, Michael Walton writes, “I have spoken to several widows who have asked that you do not attend this year’s Police Memorial Day, due to your lack of support of public safety.”
The Details of this Fort Worth Cockfighting Ring are Pretty Disturbing. Three men were arrested, 141 birds were confiscated, and 90 suffering roosters had to be euthanized—some still had metal spurs (a.k.a. gaffs, don’t Google that) tied to their legs. I’m always surprised that these things happen in real life and not just in the grisliest episodes of True Blood.
