The Dallas City Council voted Wednesday to name a street in the Dallas Farmers Market after late North Texas Food Bank CEO Jan Pruitt.

The North Texas Food Bank’s offices are located along a swath of Pearl Street, which will be renamed Jan Pruitt Way.

The beloved Pruitt, who died in January after a battle with cancer, led the organization for 20 years. In her time with the food bank, Pruitt oversaw the growth of the organization and brought attention to the issue of hunger within North Texas. In the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, she also helped launch the Mass Care Task Force, a collaboration among the American Red Cross, Volunteer Now, the Salvation Army, and the food bank that created a structure to help with large-scale disaster relief.
