Mega March Brings Thousands Downtown. A crowd estimated around 4,000 marched from the Cathedral Shrine of the Virgin of Guadalupe to City Hall on Sunday in support of immigrants’ rights. It was smaller than the first march, in 2006, but it would be hard to ever match that. Speakers included Martin Luther King III, Dallas ISD trustee Miguel Solis (a day after anti-immigrant signs were found at one of the schools he represents, Foster Elementary), Imam Omar Suleiman, and Congressmen Joaquin Castro and Beto O’Rourke.
Someone Hacked the Emergency Siren System. In case you missed it, and if you were in Dallas on Friday night and early Saturday morning, you most likely did not.
Negotiations Between Mayor and Legislators on Police and Fire Pension Fix Break Down. This isn’t going to end good for anyone, is it?
Tony Romo Will Be a Dallas Maverick For a Day. At Tuesday’s final home game, the retired Cowboys QB will be in uniform and on the bench as the team honors him. I don’t ask for much, I really don’t, but please, please, please let him get into the game. Seriously. It would be dumb and beautiful and great and if he got in and did pretty much anything, I think the sound that emerged from the AAC would replicate the whole sirens thing again.
Duck! Possibly. There could be hail, high winds, and rain this afternoon.
Lindy Ruff Out as Stars Head Coach. Tim will be along later with a short list of names for his replacement.
FC Dallas Bounces Back. It took five big second-half saves from goalkeeper Jesse Gonzalez, but FCD was able to get past an expansion Minnesota side and Tuesday’s heartbreaker in the CONCACAF Champions League semifinals.
