House Speaker Paul Ryan quietly arrived in Dallas today and met with Dallas police officers. Interim Chief David Pughes tweeted a photo with the man himself offering appreciation to the city’s officers. A Dallas police spokesman didn’t say much—Ryan “just came to visit” to “thank us for our service.” The speaker left by lunch.
Ryan offered loads of support for Dallas officers after the July ambush that left five dead and another nine wounded. He’s been fundraising in D.C. in recent weeks by targeting physicians and dentists as he leads the effort to kill the Affordable Care Act. And yesterday, he was meeting with Republican lawmakers in Corpus Christi. I’ve got a call in to Ryan’s press folks, so we’ll see if we can get more information about the visit. But here’s that photo:
Thank you Speaker @PRyan for coming by headquarters to visit with our officers. We appreciate the support! #DallasStrong pic.twitter.com/VE9F60ZNjU

UPDATE: A Ryan spokesman said he’d like the Speaker’s response to “stand by itself.”
Great to be with you, thanks for all you do. #DallasStrong https://t.co/5mowBi1O8Q
