State Fair Could Face Sanctions for Abuse of Courts, Hiding Finances

An interesting article went up on Watchdog.org yesterday that I’d like to draw your attention to. It’s about a court battle to get the State Fair of Texas to turn over records that would (presumably) reveal more about how the organization that dominates Fair Park for four months of the year does its business. If you’re not up to speed, if you don’t know why the Fair as it is currently run is a bad deal for the city of Dallas, read this letter from Don Williams. Then read the Watchdog.org story about the lawyer who is trying to shed light into the dark corners of the Fair. On Monday, the lawyer, Jennifer Riggs, asked a judge to sanction the Fair for abusing the legal system in an effort to keep its business private. Dallas subsidizes the Fair. We own the land and buildings without which the Fair could not exist. We pay $19 million a year to maintain those facilities. So we deserve some answers. Let’s hope the judge looks kindly on Riggs’ motion.
