Tom Selleck voted for him for president. But instead of heading to the White House, or taking a cushy consulting gig, or going on the speaking circuit—or moving to Bali, for that matter—former Dallas Police Chief David Brown will join ABC News as a contributor starting January 1. According to WFAA, the goal is to have him report on “gun violence, policing, social justice, race relations, and economic inequality.” I’m not exactly sure how that will play out (or whether the Police and Fire Pension will be added to his beat) but considering what feels like an End of Days news environment, I’m personally hoping that, in addition to asking the hard questions that need to be asked, he will spread the happy feels that he promised upon his retirement. “I’m going to love people in retirement,” he said in October. “That’s the potion that’s gonna heal us in this country.
*Correction: the original post carried a headline that David Brown had joined WFAA.
