A Funny (Or at Least Mildly Amusing) Story About Voting Today

It's almost over! Yay!
|

On the way in to work this morning, I stopped to vote at the Lochwood Library, in East Dallas. That’s where I’ve voted for 16 years. (Fact check: the library isn’t 16 years old. It used to be called Casa View, I believe.) I’ve never before had to wait in line to vote there. Today I did — and happily so.

The first person in line that I recognized was Zac “Zaz” Crain. He was standing one person in front of me when I arrived. We greeted each other, and then I said, loudly enough for the 20 or so people within earshot, “Well, I guess your vote is going to cancel out mine,” thereby making us both objects of scorn to half the people in line. But which half? Pretty good little early morning joke, if I do say so.

But not as good as my next shot. Several minutes later, another neighbor arrived. He is known on rugby pitches and in payment-processing circles far and wide as Big Play Clay. As Big Play took his spot and greeted Zaz and me, I gave him a concerned look and said, again loudly enough for all to hear, “I thought if you had a felony conviction you weren’t allowed to vote.” That one drew some chuckles.

Are we almost done with this thing? Can we all get together soon and laugh again?
