FC Dallas hasn’t won anything of substance since 1997, when it was still known as the Dallas Burn and won the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. Last night, in front of a packed house of more than 16,000 fans — including myself — they did it again, beating a New England Revolution team that includes Plano’s own Lee Nguyen. Maxi Urruti had two goals (and very easily could have had two more) and Mauro Diaz (“The Little Unicorn”) had a goal on a penalty late in the first half and three assists, and maybe was even more dominant than that suggests.

The 19-year trophy drought could possibly, knock on wood, turn into a flood: FCD is currently out in front in the MLS Supporters’ Shield race, still alive in the CONCACAF Champions League tourney, and then there are the playoffs for the MLS Cup.
