DART discussions, Toyota Stadium upgrades, loose dog attack arrests, and more
By |

City Council members want downtown subway, improved bus service. At yesterday’s City Council meeting with DART, support was voiced for an underground route through the central business district and for better bus routes and schedules. To better understand the issues at stake, you should read this. And this.

Toyota Stadium upgrades being scaled back. Construction bids for the Frisco stadium and home of FC Dallas came in over budget—millions of dollars worth. Upgrades will still be made, but they’ll be scaled back. The National Soccer Hall of Fame will be built on the main concourse level instead of elevated on a new level. And the south entrance tower will be reconfigured, among other changes.

Woman arrested after loose dog attack. Luz Alvarez is facing a felony charge because, in May of this year, her bull terrier attacked 13-year-old Jesus Galvan in East Dallas. The dog died after an altercation with police. This is the second loose dog-related arrest in a week. Alicia Hernandez was also arrested because her pit bull recently attacked two women. This was the first arrest made by the DPD in a dangerous dog ownership case. There are approximately 9,000 loose dogs in southern Dallas. It’s a problem that needs a solution.

Today’s North Texas Olympic news. Jennifer Madu, who dominated for Plano East, will represent Nigeria in the women’s 4x100m relay today. Courtney Okolo, a Carrollton Newman Smith alum, will rep USA in the relay. Plano native Connor Fields will participate in the BMX quarterfinal race. Basketball semifinals between USA and France will feature Duncanville’s Tamika Catchings and Baylor’s Brittney Griner. And it’s day two of women’s golf for Flower Mound’s Gerina Piller.
