In the last 50-plus years, North Korea’s greatest cultural exports have been pictures of Kim Jong-Un looking at things and the sort of global existential uneasiness that comes about when a reclusive totalitarian state makes a habit of belligerently detonating nuclear weapons. South Korea, on the other hand, has in recent years given the world — among many other things — the gift of K-pop, where girl groups, boy bands, and “Gangnam Style” reign supreme.

Apink, one such K-pop act performing tonight at Verizon Theatre, may not hold the keys to world peace or Korean reunification. But they should put on a heck of a show. Find some peace, love, and understanding this evening through the joys of Korean pop music, Chinese dance, or American theater.

Doors at Verizon open at 6:30 pm for Apink, the six-piece girl group whose name, per their biography, exists because of this logic: “…’A’ stands for the girls always showing an ‘Amazing’ performance while ‘Pink’ is known to be the group’s favorite color.” See what the K-pop craze, which has inspired its own academic field of study, is all about.

The Shen Yun Performing Arts group, an act that dazzles with thousands of years of Chinese arts and culture, is at the Winspear tonight. Performances follow through the weekend.

Clarkston, a world premiere play that is hard to describe but easy to appreciate, continues its run at the Wyly.
