Tonight’s lineup of things to do is about as stereotypically Texas as can be. We’ve got country music, a rodeo, and an oil-rich egomaniacal family keeping a white-knuckle grip on its unsustainable lifestyle. We’re missing guns, football, and an inflated sense of self-importance based on geographical size and a decade of semi-sovereignty that ended more than 150 years ago.

Remember the Alamo tonight at a Kacey Musgraves show, the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo, or Oil at Theatre Three.

I enjoy Kacey Musgraves’ music for many reasons, but I really appreciate her way with aphorisms. “Mind your own biscuits, and life will be gravy.” “Follow your arrow, wherever it points.” Words to live by. The Golden native kicks off her “Rhinestone Revue” tonight at the Majestic.

The Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo continues out at the Stockyards. I’m having a hard time deciding between the llama show and steer wrestling, which both begin at 8 pm.

The Holes family matriarch has been drinking. The petroleum clan, and the entire state of Texas, are in danger, and the annual family barbecue may be the only way to avert a catastrophe. I have now set the stage for Oil, a new play starting previews tonight at Theatre Three.
