Plans can go awry, which is why it’s good to have a fallback. Fortunately, in Dallas, your second and third options are often just as good as the No. 1 pick.

Muse plays American Airlines Center, Oak Lawn lights up Lee Park for the holidays, and a play at Kitchen Dog Theater takes aim at the seedy underbelly of American politics.

For the dozen or so people besides me who were looking forward to the Girl Band show at Dada, I’ve got some bad news that you’ve hopefully already heard by now: It’s not happening. Health issues. Get well soon, Girl Band.

Muse, a band not known for subtlety, will bring its high-decibel operatic bluster to American Airlines Center tonight. This band, for all its flaws, does bombastic, loud arena rock better than almost any act out there, and is an absolute force to be reckoned with live. Phantogram opens.

Oak Lawn will light up Lee Park tonight with a celebration that kicks off at 5 pm. The lighting itself is at 7:15 pm, and will be accompanied by free hot chocolate and music from the Salvation Army Brass Band. The Totalitarians, a satire of the absurdity of modern American politics, continues its run at Kitchen Dog Theater.
