I hope everyone had a safe and happy Thanksgiving. If you did not, that’s unfortunate, and I hope the rest of your year goes better. Maybe some of these 25 things to do in December will help. First, let’s cross off the last calendar box for November with a Mad Men party, a talk from Tuesdays With Morrie author Mitch Albom, and some other seasonal happenings.

Writer and Dallas native Matt Zoller Seitz’s new book, Mad Men Carousel, is a collection of essays and meditations on the dearly departed television show. To mark the occasion, Seitz will appear at Wild Detectives for a conversation with the Dallas Morning News’ Chris Vognar. Discussion of a period show about hard-drinking, well-dressed advertising executives in the 1960s demands a costume party, and guests are encouraged to dress up for happy hour prices on cocktails. Admission is free, and the shindig gets going at 7:30 pm. I’m still waiting for someone to throw a Deadwood party, which would require guests to dress like cowboys and swear every ten seconds.

Tuesdays With Morrie author Mitch Albom is tonight’s featured speaker at the Dallas Jewish Bookfest at the Jewish Community Center of Dallas. His latest book, The Magic Strings of Frankie Pesto, is a novel narrated by the “voice of Music” and featuring the “world’s greatest guitarist.” Life lessons included with $25 ticket ($35 at the door).

Curious about the decorations at the White House circa 2003? The Bush Presidential Center at SMU has you covered with “A Season of Stories.”
