Things To Do In Dallas Tonight: Aug. 12

Catch two major exhibitions at the Nasher before they close later this week; Plus, a good reason to visit our "best dog friendly bar."

First things first: There are a couple of closings at the Nasher Sculpture Center at the end of this week, so today may be a good opportunity to take some time and catch them. Both the Mark Grotjahn and Bettina Pousttchi exhibitions are wrapping up on August 17. I have become quite fond of seeing Pousttchi’s willfully misshapen street bollards in various serene lunches at the gallery. They will be missed.

Next up, we have an entire evening’s worth of music events that you can browse over on FrontRow. Two shows in particular stand out:

1.) Aimee Mann fans may not be aware that the popular, soundtrack-friendly songwriter plays in a duo called the Both, along with Ted Leo. That’s at the Kessler this evening.

2.) The Casket Girls may sound like a downer, but their harmonies and electric yet moody backing music prove otherwise. That’s at Dan’s Silverleaf in Denton, and the show begins at 9 pm.

Finally, a reminder that our winner for “Best Dog Friendly Bar,” Lee Harvey’s, has half-price burgers on Tuesday nights. So, feel free to toss leftovers to your last best friend if you are one of those misguided people who feeds your dog table scraps. The music theme for the evening is heavy on retro records—garage rock, punk, and funk.
