Besides the George Strait farewell show that took place at the same venue a couple of months ago, there is perhaps no other event that could be considered the concert of the summer as much as Beyoncé and Jay Z’s appearance at AT&T Stadium this evening. It’s a double-headlining bill, but as the astute Zac Crain pointed out in our July issue, “this is Beyoncé’s show.” That’s not to undercut Jay, but Beyoncé’s most recent record was a groundbreaking sucker punch to the music industry, while Mr. Carter’s last effort was doing well just to exist in the first place. It’s very unfair, but a 40-something-year-old rapper is a tough sell with the kids. Beyoncé is especially good with surprises even on tour, and her recent live versions of Lauryn Hill’s “Ex-Factor” stands as evidence. That kicks off at 8 pm tonight. I suggest figuring out your parking situation as soon as possible.

As I mentioned on Friday, there were a couple of significant art exhibitions that opened over the weekend, including the Matthew Sontheimer show at the Talley Dunn Gallery, and the Slavs and Tatars’ run at the DMA. Those are both back up today after the weekly Monday gallery hibernation.
