Journalist Daniel Silva turned his terrifyingly hands-on experience as a journalist in 1980s war-torn Iraq and Iran into a lucrative career as a spy novelist, so in other words, you can take some of his details as closer to the truth than other writers who have perhaps stepped more gingerly in their lifetimes. Trust me, there is no shortage of those. Just look at the guy’s publicity photo if you think he doesn’t mean business. Silva will be speaking at the Dallas Musuem of Art tonight (See below: The event is actually tomorrow.) as part of the Arts & Letters Live series to discuss his latest novel, The Heist. The premise revolves around the theft of a Caravaggio, and the DMA crowd will likely be aghast at that particular component of the story. The talk begins at 7 pm. Note: This event is actually tomorrow, July 18.

The Asian Film Festival of Dallas finally wraps up today after what sounds like a successful week. There’s a closing night bash from 9 to 12 am, which takes place over at the Dram, on Henderson. The party is free and the lounge will be serving festival-themed cocktails.
