Is Plano ‘The Cool Kid of Collin County’?

That’s what Plano Mayor Harry LaRosiliere told me.

If you get over any preconceived notions about the city — which are probably decades old and now more than likely apply to a suburb further north than Plano — you might agree with LaRosiliere. If not cool, exactly, Plano is at least a different city than the one you remember from stories like this one.

Anyway: I, for one, will definitely be more on board with LaRosiliere’s statement if Suburbia Fest gets a better headliner than David Guetta next time.

If there is a case to be made for walkability, Plano provides an interesting case. I am sure in the 1980s some folks in Plano thought Collin Creek Mall was the future, and downtown Plano its past, but fast forward 30 years later, Collin Creek Mall is now Plano’s past, while downtown Plano is increasingly becoming its future. You have a similar contrast between Willow Bend and Legacy.

That is a good point, yes. Focusing on downtown has really changed the course there, for sure.
