It’s the eve of the Dallas Art Fair, and I’m sure there are nervous patrons and enthusiasts sifting through the darker reaches of their closets already. That would be due to the 6th annual preview gala taking place at the Fashion Industry Gallery tonight, and more specifically, the requisite “cocktail attire” strongly suggested on the invitation.

If you’re worried you’re sartorially unprepared, there is a trunk show at the Joule’s TenOverSix this afternoon featuring the work of designer, Jasmin Shokrian. The event is early enough (4 pm) that you could make the gala’s 7 pm start-time after changing out of your drab, worker bee, earth-tones. And don’t worry, Shokrian has far more cocktail-appropriate attire than the drawstring capris featured in the shopping event’s flier. If her designs are good enough for the First Lady, they’re good enough for you. RSVP to [email protected].

Elsewhere this evening, the Dallas Mavericks are playing what is likely the last “big” game of the regular season, playoff chase notwithstanding. Perhaps their most obvious rivals, the San Antonio Spurs will be at the AAC, and this would be just as exciting in the dead space of December as it will be as a near-season closer. While we’re on the subject, congrats to Dirk for becoming the tenth greatest scorer of all time, and congrats to our own Zac Crain for coming eerily close in most of his 2014 Mavs season predictions.

Finally, the weather seems to be cooperating a little more than last week for the AT&T PAC’s patio session that will take place at 5 pm. It should be a balmy 82 degrees, which might be almost a bit too warm if you have your aforementioned wine-and-cheese outfit on. Yells at Eels will be performing outside, and the beloved royal family of Dallas free jazz should sound great under these conditions, as they need very little amplification.
