Dallas-based Andrews Distributing Co. has snapped up Fort Worth’s Coors Distributing Co., likely boosting Andrews’ beer and Red Bull sales from about 28 million cases to 33 million cases annually.
Terms of the sale weren’t announced, but informed sources put the price tag at roughly $55 million.
The deal gives Andrews Distributing eight new brewing partners in Tarrant and Johnson counties, plus more than 3,000 new retail accounts in the region.
“North Texas is at the epicenter of an explosive growth in the beer industry,” company founder Barry Andrews said in a statement. “I am humbled for the opportunity to extend our services and value-added assistance to Tarrant and Johnson county retailers and … to our brewery partners here.”
Coors Distributing, which had been owned by the McMillan family for 48 years, has about 210 employees. Prior to the purchase Andrews had a total of about 1,100 employees, including 280 in Fort Worth, where it bought a Miller Brewing distributor in 2008.
In addition to the Cowtown operations, Andrews Distributing has facilities in Corpus Cristi, Dallas, and Allen.
Andrews intends to consolidate its Fort Worth locations in a new distribution center on 30 acres near Loop 820 and Interstate 35W, company officials said. They hope to begin construction of the state-of-the-art facility before year’s end.
Believed to be one of the top 10 beer wholesalers in the country, Andrews Distributing expected 2013 sales to reach $600 million, up 5 percent from the previous year, according to Market Watch, a trade journal for the wine, spirits, and beer industries.
