As Jason mentioned, a few people took to the Large Marge for some yoga on Saturday. But there was a lot more going on than just that. There was the 10th annual Trinity River Levee run, Zumba classes, adaptive sports activities, disc golf, Camp Gladiator workouts, and a lacrosse game (full disclosure: this part was organized by my husband). There was also a beer garden, food trucks, a dog park, and vendors selling all sorts of stuff. It was all part of an event called All Out Trinity. Organizers say there were about 4,000 people on or around the bridge and the basin on Saturday.
I’m a fan of anything that gets people out exploring their city, so I loved the event. Once people figured out where to park, and where they were walking to, they seemed to enjoy themselves. It also helped that Saturday was gorgeous. There’s discussion of making All Out Trinity an annual event, but nothing has been decided yet (though there will be a similar event on June 15 celebrating the opening of the Continental SkyPark, the Trinity Skyline Trail, the West Dallas Gateway Plaza, and the new Sylvan Avenue Bridge).
My favorite part of the day was in the evening when Boy Scouts Troop 470 of West Dallas lit two bonfires (two others were built by Art Conspiracy). That’s when I discovered my new favorite place in Dallas: in the Trinity River basin with the skyline behind the Margaret Hunt Hill bridge and a s’mores in hand.
