Last April, a film with local and Texas ties called The Bounceback, about a guy who accidentally-on-purpose finds himself in Austin the same weekend as his ex, screened at the Dallas International Film Festival. We liked it.

Now, that movie is called Love and Air Sex, and it’s having a bit of a homecoming at the Texas Theatre tonight. It’s co-written by Dallas’ own Steven Walters, who you might know from Second Thought Theatre or Dallas Theater Center stages. Our critic, Jason Heid, described it as a “pretty good Judd Apatow-style foul-mouthed rom-com” with an actual element of surprise. Musician Greg Shroeder will play a set before the screening, which starts at 7:45 p.m. Stick around for a Q&A with the filmmakers, more music from Home by Hovercraft, and a live demonstration of what makes for a critical plot point in the movie: the Air Sex Championships. Don’t ask too many questions. Just go. And say hi to me, since I’ll be wandering around somewhere.

Also this evening, the Detroit indie pop duo Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. plays Trees. Tickets are well-priced for the sort of packed dance floor you should see tonight, and you can still get them online. If you’re never listened to their spacy version of The Beach Boys’ “God Only Knows,” you might try it. Chad Valley (also a persona—his real name is Hugo Manuel) is the opening act.
