Barrett Brown Makes It Into House of Cards

Barrett takes the hard path to becoming a TV reference.

BarrettBrownIt is rather amazing that our good buddy Barrett Brown has become a reference in House of Cards. Have a look at the clip. Just how did that happen? It happened because none other than Gregg Housh has served as a consultant for the show. Read my profile of Barrett if you don’t know the name Gregg Housh. Gregg sends word of how the whole thing came together:

The show wanted to create an authentic character for the hacker. They reached out to me online and asked if I would be interested in consulting. I thought it would be a lot of fun, mostly because I absolutely love the show. Then they cast an actor who I really like as well, Jimmi Simpson. This just made it 10 times better for me. I helped with some research and making the hacking-related stuff a little more realistic. I was also very lucky to get to spend a week on set in Baltimore working with everyone and watching it get filmed. Finding out that the Barrett Brown mentions made it through final edits really made me happy. The show itself doesn’t have a political point of view. For them, I think the mentions were just about making the character seem a lot more real.

Check back in on Monday, when FrontBurner will publish the next installment of Barrett’s jailhouse memoirs. The title of Monday’s installment: “The Barrett Brown Review of Arts and Letters and Jail: The White People Meeting.”
