Normally the red-headed stepchild of entertainment options, Monday night is shaping up nicely.
First, there’s the Libertine‘s annual toy drive and concert, expanded this year to include two other worthy causes plus three other venues. Unwrapped toys will go to the kids at the Dallas Life homeless shelter. Your donation at Crown and Harp goes to Nevada Hill, a local artist who has cancer and no insurance, while donations at Single Wide benefit The Granada’s Gavin Mulloy’s baby cousin, Eevie, who was diagnosed with leukemia. The other stage is at the Bottle Shop, so it’s not like you have too far to travel hit up all the shows. Parking is probably going to be a pain no matter what, but you could try showing up early and see where that gets you. Truck Yard might be a good spot for food first.
In the Arts District, storytelling series Oral Fixation hosts an evening of tales centered around the theme/phrase, “When in Rome.” That’s in Hamon Hall at the Winspear Opera House, should you feel like listening to some folks get up and talk about doing as the Romans do in a variety of situations and places.
Finally, there’s vinyl karaoke night at Twilite Lounge in Deep Ellum. Hat tip to D Home managing editor Jessica Jones for letting me know about this one. Post-Monday Night Football, you can pick a three-song set from your personal vinyl collection (BYO records) or let DJ DeeBay (Danny Balis) spin something for you. No CDs—only 45s and LPs. Participants will be entered to win a $35 bar tab, which is pretty excellent.
