About That Lion Death at the Dallas Zoo

|

Cristina mentioned in Leading Off this morning that one lion killed another at the Dallas Zoo. (Sorry. I’m just coming to this. I’ve been playing Minecraft all day. Finally got my moat finished.) I have questions. First, the online headline in the DMN reads “Male Lion Kills Female in Dallas Zoo’s Giants of the Savanna Exhibit.” What was that lady doing in the Giants of the Savanna Exhibit? I mean, she was asking to be killed.

Second, the story contained this passage: “[Dr. Lynn Kramer, the zoo’s vice president of animal operations and welfare], said the lions, all 5 years old, had engaged in roughhousing in the past, which is normal. But Kramer said that in his 35 years working as a veterinarian at zoos, he had never heard of something like this happening.” Seriously? Because it happened a month ago at a zoo in Colorado Springs.

Third, is it too soon? It’s probably too soon. I’m sorry. I always do this sort of thing too soon. Back to Minecraft, I guess.
